(UK only, i’m in England not America so don’t say anything about America!)
I vaguely remember sending a form, or maybe just filling out a form sometime last year regarding voting. If i did then i can vote, but if i didn’t, waiting in a queue to vote for ages wont be good.
How the hell am i supposed to know if i can vote? I need to see a list. The last day for registering was a few days ago! oh no help
Also, if i’m not registered, or if no one gives me a good answer & i just don’t bother, even if i am, when’s the next time i’ll be able to vote?
Is this done every year? Or every 5? …
Receiving a poll card means you’re on the register, as only people on the register get one. (There’s not much point telling people there’s going to be an election if they can’t vote in it!) The poll card has your register number on it.
It seems clear to me that the form you filled out last year was the annual canvass form, which is sent every autumn to every household in the country. The electoral register is re-compiled every year from these forms.
If you want to see a list, then you can ask to see it at your local council or possibly at a local library (in my area it’s available at the main borough library). But honestly, I wouldn’t bother. The poll card proves you ARE registered.
