Are poor and middle class republicans that vote for McCain this election voting out of fear of progression or indifference to their economic interests?
I received this question from another site else were and wanted to know what yahoo people thought. what say you?
Socialism is not progressive and our economic interests will suffer under Obama. Especially with Pelosi, Frank, and the rest of the thieves in charge.
It is a widely held belief that, in the last two Presidential elections, the votes "of the people" were grossly (excuse the pun) tampered with. If it is true that there are those who can manipulate our votes so proficiently, what’s to stop them from doing it in 2008? (And, thereby, "install" the President of THEIR choice, not ours, once again.) So…, to all of the great minds at Yahoo!Answers:
Do any of you know of any improvements made in the voting system… or, of any "watch groups" that have formed… that would prevent this travesty from happening next time? Can anyone give me some good news that will not only inspire me to vote, but provide the confidence that my vote is not a meaningless waste of my time? One more quick thought, if I may… Someone once told me that, although Sadam Hussein was despised by a vast majority of the Iraqi people, he still won elections by over 90% of the vote! Is that also the fate of the good, old U.S.A?
Ease my mind, if you can. Please.
O.K…. Just to clear this up. I’m not saying that America IS Iraq. I love this country, and agree that our system is far better that most others. Don’t you wonder, though… in such a great country… where your monthly credit card balance can be calculated accurately (to the last penny)…. why can we not get an accurate count on our votes? And, why do Americans shut their eyes, and accept results that show ANY evidence of a fraudulant count? Yes, this is America… That’s what makes it so sad.
Even if the vote count is legitimate (which, I agree, is questionable at best), your choices are still handpicked by "them".
I mean, look at what you have: The Democratic party (which sucks) and the Republican party (which sucks even more). You won’t get an honest candidate; they’d never let that happen. Any candidate that doesn’t have tens of millions of dollars doesn’t stand a chance. So, candidates sell their integrity to lobbyists, corporations, and the special interests. It’s not bribery, mind you, it’s "campaign donations". Both parties are slaves to the corporate conglomerates, the rich elites, the lobbies, and special interest groups. And they, along with the mainstream, corporate, news-for-profit media in this country, always makes sure to marginalize anyone who doesn’t tow the line or anyone outside the party (nothing unites a Democrat and a Republican like a 3rd party threat!).
In the end, what are we left with? A choice between two very different candidates operated by the same puppet-master. It’s like choosing between a turdburger and a $hit sandwich. A punch in the gut or a kick in the teeth? Regardless of whether or not "they" manipulate the vote count, the outcome is still the same: One of "their" guys is in office!
If anyone’s electoral vote went against that of the states’ popular vote, please let me know who it is. If not, please let me know who did in the most recent previous elections. Thanks ![]()
Currently almost every state has a winner-takes-all system of apportioning electoral votes. Only Maine and Nebraska apportion electoral votes differently – they do it according to majority in each congressional district.
Obviously in a winner-takes-all state, the electoral vote cannot go against the popular vote. In Nebraska in 2008, one district went for Obama and the other 4 went for McCain. I don’t think this is a case of electoral vote going against the popular vote, but you may see it differently.
On the other hand, viewing the election nationally instead of state-by-state, it is possible for the electoral vote to go against the popular vote. This happened in 2000. Here’s a description of all four times it has happened at the national level: http://www.america.gov/st/usg-english/2008/September/20080905143744ebyessedo0.8026239.html
.
Following the popular vote general election in November for president:
A)the electors meet and decide if a clear majority has been established
B) the new president is declared by the Federal Election Commission
C)if the winner does not have a majority of the vote the election goes to the House of Representatives
D)the electors meet and cast their ballot to determine the president
E) the Senate certifies the vote, determines which candidate received the plurality of the elector college votes, and declares the winner
D. The Electors meet and cast their ballots to determine the President.
When was the last time a presidential candidate won the election and the popular vote? If you can quote a source that would be wonderful, or even better would be where I can look at the numbers for the popular vote and who won the election for past presidential elections.
msot of the time the president won by a popular vote, except in 2000, when we all know who had the most votes

what % and/or actual number will have died in between casting their vote, and election day?
Studying actuarial science but think an accurate estimate is beyond me…I’ll go for an alternative method actuaries sometimes like to employ called the ‘random estimate’ and choose a percentage of 0.00173%
