Meles Zenawi, the Ethiopian prime minister, presides over the country with the second-largest population in Africa.
Zenawi has been the prime minister of Ethiopia since 1991 but he has most recently been in the headlines for his role in the country’s upcoming elections.
Crtitics claim it is impossible for the opposition to win Sunday’s vote because of legal restrictions imposed by the current administration.
In an interview with Al Jazeera’s Andrew Simmons, Zenawi spoke about his country’s often poor human rights record.

A candidate in that election was nearly killed in a plane crash. If he had been killed, this would have delayed the election in that constituency (as in Thirsk & Malton). This means the incumbent Speaker would not have been in Parliament, and could not be re-elected Speaker by the House, when Parliament re-assembled. Would MPs have improvised with an ‘acting Speaker’ for a few weeks? Or would there have been a new permanent Speaker?
A deputy speaker would have stepped in until the deferred election was ran. There are a couple of deputy speakers anyway.

I think it is important to vote for something!! It takes 5 minutes to put a cross in a box at the local polling station.
I`ve voted in every election since i was 18. I can understand being unsure about what all the parties really stand for, but still hugely important to vote. I think not voting is more laziness, than being unsure who to vote for.
I agree, couldn’t believe it when my boss said today he had never voted, he used to be in the army too, being prepared to fight in wars without any interest who is governing the country makes no sense to me. Its laziness and ignorance, people died so that we could have the vote.

If he wins by less then 2% of the popular vote (which according to the 2000 election is more important then the electoral college) will it prove the reverse racism is alive an well in America? What will this do to racial tensions that already exist?
You do realize that without the White support…Obama would never have made it through the primaries.
You can thank your fellow Caucasians, and the Majority of African-Americans for giving this country Barack Obama as President for the next 8 years.
