Decorating can be stressful. You want to create a look for your home that is beautiful and inviting. You don’t want your home to look like anybody else’s. Your family’s taste is important and you want to create a home that illustrates that taste instead of re-creating the same look as someone else’s home. No need to fret, it is possible! There is no need to rely solely on unique pieces when decorating your home, creating a unique look is totally possible without spending a lot of money! Your home can have its own unique look without your having to spend a lot of money. All it takes is some time, some creativity and the willingness to try something you hadn’t thought of before. Put your furniture in new places Sometimes creating a new look for a room can be as simple as moving the furniture in that room around. You can find inspiration in library books and magazines-you don’t have to spend any money on inspiration. There is no rule that says a couch needs to make physical contact with a wall-move it closer to the center of the room. Beds don’t have to sit in the middle of the room or wall-putting them in the corner can create a new look. Refocus your family room or living room around a coffee table or fireplace instead of the television. Let the television be an afterthought. Use decorative countertop containers for your kitchen utensils instead of leaving them in drawers. Moving things to new spaces is usually all it takes to make an entirely new look.
Learn your way around the internet. Photographers as well as other artists put their work up for sale online. Etsy is a very popular website for artists who want to sell their work and for people who are trying to decorate their homes inexepensively. If you’re interested in browsing photography for free, you can look through Flickr, a site where photographers post their portfolios for viewers. Some artists build their websites that they use to sell their work. Deals abound on the internet-shopping is no longer limited to Amazon and Ebay (though there are great bargains there as well!)
Think outside the box! Decorating your house is easily done using items you’ve owned for a while. Believe it or not, pots and pans can be great pieces of art-especially since you can still use them to cook! If you put your cookery on the walls, you won’t have to dig through the cabinets to find it!
This was Julia Child’s favorite way to use her kitchen ware. What about the quilt that your great aunt gave to you? Would it look good up on a wall? There are no written rules that say quilts and blankets can only be used for warmth and bedspreads. What other everyday items can you put to decorative use?
Most people get great joy out of decorating with things they already own. Tap into your creativity and look at what you already have. Filling a wall with decorations does not automatically make it better to look at than a wall that is empty.
Sometimes homemade artwork is just as good as something that can be bought in a store. Ask yourself what kind of dcor will make you happiest and then go look for it. Rushing to get your house “all the way” decorated is only good for messing up your budget.
