Voter registration exercise

The exercise that runs for the next 45days across the country will culminate in compiling a new voter register by the Interim Independent Electoral Commission. With the commission undertaking electronic voter registration in 18 constituencies.

Retired President Daniel Arap Moi was among the first leaders to register as a new voter at his Kabarak home.

Speaking in Kitale while registering Saboti MP Eugene Wamalwa said the turn up in his constituency was very encouraging. And called on Kenyans to take this exercise seriously.

Countrywide voter registration kicks off

President Mwai Kibaki has urged Kenyans to turn up in large numbers for the voter registration exercise which was he officially launched today morning. While registering as a voter, the president said the new register will curb incidents of double registration and warned that those who attempt to have themselves registered more than once will be prosecuted. The registration exercise will be conducted 7 days a week for the next one and a half months beginning today.

Day two of Live From Main Street and GRITtvs special programming on voting in the United States. Registration deadlines loom and there are many obstacles. From reading tests to ID challenges, felon disenfranchisement laws and the endless purging of voter rolls the U.S. is almost alone among industrial world democracies in having no uniform federal voting law. WHY IS THAT?

As early voting begins in states across the country, we are joined by Wendy Weiser who directs the Brennan Center’s work on voting rights and elections; Docia Buffington, the lead organizer for the Youth Voter Collective; renowned author and professor, Frances Fox Piven. She has written many books including Why Americans Still Don’t Vote; and Dr. Divine Pryor the Executive Director of the Center for NuLeadership on Urban Solutions.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, urges Churches to offer voter registration to their people. He quotes the Bishops Conference as well as the IRS with proof that this is permissible, under both Church law and civil law, for Churches to do. Yet fear often makes good opportunities go up in flames, as Fr. Pavone demonstrates somewhat dramatically in this video.

Are you registered to vote, and does your ID match your voter registration address?

I just read a very interesting article about voting at Rolling Stone. Just wondering if folks have all their voting information in order.

Yes it matches luckily I registered at the dmv though it is not too late to contact your local registrar of voters many states have provisions that you may correct your information before election day if your info does not match.

i mailed my registration one day late (of the deadline oct 20) will i still be able to vote?

Probably not if it was postmarked on the 21st… but you should call your local elections office to be sure.
