Polling places serve approximately a thousand voters each and must be open by 7 a.m. to allow the voting to begin. In San Mateo County, it takes nearly 2,500 dedicated Election Officers on Election Day to open, manage and close our 448 precincts a complicated process that takes training, practice, and smarts. This segment takes you to a polling place in San Mateo to watch the precinct operations at an elementary school on Election Day. This location had two precincts with a steady stream of voters all day. There are interviews with a couple of voters, the Double Inspector in charge and two of the student poll workers who signed up to serve.
