are my voting records available to the public? What happened to the privacy of the voting booth?

I heard a news report that told how many times Caroline Kennedy had voted. Are personal voting records open to the public? Whatever happened to the privacy of the voting booth?
It is public record as to whether you voted or not, not who you voted for.
I’m guessing that one of the reasons that they release whether someone votes regularly (or not) is so people will be able to decide whether they want a Senator who is interested enough in politics to show up to vote every year or so (someone who doesn’t vote regularly has no business being a Senator and as we all learned from the Democrats during the past election, Joe the Plumber didn’t even have the right to express his political opinion because of his spotty voting record).

Only the number of times you voted and the elections you voted in (ie: Presidential 2008, presidential primary, 2004) are public record. How you voted in those elections are personal and there is no record of that.

Your votes are anonymous; however, it is on record IF you voted (when you sign in at the voting place).

There is a record of whether you voted, but the nature of the vote is secret.

The only information that is available to the public, is the party, how many elections you have voted in such as 2004 Presidential Primary, 2008 Presidential election, etc.
I use information like this all the time in my work, to verify that I have found the person that I am looking for.
However, who you voted for is confidential, and you have the privacy of knowing that no one can access whom you voted for.
