Why is voting for the third party a wasted vote?
March 5, 2010 - 4:40 am
I dont neccessarily believe it is a wasted vote but for my debate in AP US Government, I have to convince my class that voting for the third party is a wasted vote. Please help and citing sources would be great! And please don’t rebut this because I already found too much information on why this is not true. Thank you!
because the 3rd party never wins and is just someone throghn in there for people who dont like the D or the R

Why is voting for the third party a wasted vote? No it is not wasted.
It is possible to build a party from the ground up. For example the Nazi party in Germany started from nothing in about 1920 and by 1933 it took over the government.
Also third parties ( like the NDP in Canada) often come up with good ideas that are adopted by one of the major parties

because they wont get in …..there are many third partys like the green part for instance. there will be maybe 1000′s of people and thts not too much. im a third party independent and member of the savage nation and would like to see the constitution become reinstituted(for lack of a better word). anyway tht will never happen because as long as the ACLU has power its not gonna get anywhere. so i kno tht noone will vote constitutionalis so i vote right wing which is the closest thing

IF people would vote more for third parties instead for RINOs, even if it means the lib wins the election, the RINOs would get properly labeled and stop the nonsense. Then we would have some conservatives back in the party.

A third party would be great. But it would never survive the other 2 party’s look at what happened to Ross Perot.
And Sarah Palin.

It is a wasted vote in the sense that the third party never wins, but in reality it is very important as evident in the 1992 Presidential election in which Ross Perot an independent took a large number of popular votes away from Bush causing him to lose valuable electoral votes and the entire re-election.

The theory is that voting for the third part is a wasted vote because the third part will not get enough votes to win, and therefore since the party didn’t win anyway, the vote was wasted.
Of course, I and others would argue that any vote placed for something you believe in or want to occur is never wasted, even if you don’t win.
